Literally, salvation means to be rescued from various adversities, such as affliction, illness, danger, or natural disaster. In the Bible, the original Hebrew and Greek words for “salvation” carry meanings of “rescue,” “deliverance from death,” and “healing.” In the New Testament, salvation is most often used to mean the forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God, and the gift of eternal life and heavenly peace. By believing in Jesus, believers are no longer slaves to sin but become holy and undefiled. They receive the grace of salvation through Jesus Christ’s atoning death, gaining the hope of eternal life and being saved from the eternal punishment of hell, so their souls will not perish. Ultimately, their bodies will be redeemed, and they will enter the glorious new heaven and new earth for eternity.
The Bible records:
1)Salvation is by God’s grace and human faith.
[Ephesians 2:8-9] For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
[Acts 15:11] No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.
2)Salvation is only through the name of Jesus.
[John 10:9] I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
[Acts 4:12] Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
[Romans 10:9, 13] If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
[John 3:17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
3)Jesus the Savior desires for all people to be saved.
[1 Timothy 2:4] who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
[2 Peter 3:9] The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
[Acts 16:30b-31] He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
