Jian-Lou Xu

Chinese Pastor

Born in Shangshui, Henan, China, and graduated from Foreign Languages School of Zhengzhou University in 1994(MA), and worked as university instructor in China.

In March, 2008, immigrated to Vancouver BC, Canada with his wife and son. Pastor Xu was baptized in June 2008 in Nelson Ave Community Church (Burnaby), and served as the leader of Chinese Ministry and church elder. In June, 2013, he sensed strong calling from above and convinced to serve God’s church fully in his life. In August, 2014, he was admitted into Calvin Theological Seminary, and got equipped in the truth of Jesus Christ. In June, 2017, he graduated as MDiv, and accepted the call of being a pastor of the Chinese Ministry.

Wife, Amy Zhu, graduated from Calvin Seminary at the same time as MA of youth and family ministry. They have two children, son, Cann Xu, born in China 2001; daughter, Ariel Xu, born in Vancouver, in 2009.

Thomas Wolthuis

English Pastor

Dr. Tom Wolthuis is the new interim English language pastor at CCIC. He has served in Iowa City for seven years as the Director of Geneva Campus Ministry at the University of Iowa. There he worked students, faculty, and many visiting scholars from China.

Dr. Wolthuis has produced Biblical studies podcasts on Reading Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, Reading Genesis, and an Oral Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. 

Tom has written monthly articles for the Christian Courier, a Christian publication in Canada since 2014. His passion is to help people read Scripture to inspire and guide their mission in life.

Before this Dr. Wolthuis was the Co-President of the Institute for Christian Studies, a small graduate school in Toronto, Ontario. He taught Biblical Studies and youth ministry at Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, for 10 years. Tom has also taught at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan in religion and communications; at LCC University in Klaipeda, Lithuania; and Northrise University in Ndola, Zambia.

Rev. Wolthuis is an ordained minister in the Christian Reformed Church and has been a pastor and church growth consultant. He has a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Duke University and Master of Divinity and Masters of Theology degrees from Calvin Theological Seminary.

Tom is married to Dawn for over 45 years and has two daughters and sons-in-law, one family with two children in Kansas City and the other family in Chicago. Tom and Dawn grew up and met in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
