[Psalm 2:7] “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.'”
The author of Psalm 2 is David. God accepted David and his descendants as His sons (2 Samuel 7:14; Psalm 89:26), granting them the right to inherit His portion.
In ancient times, when Judeans adopted a child as an heir, they would lay their hand on the child’s head before the local elders and declare, “You are my son; today I have begotten you.” This established a legal father-son and inheritance relationship. When the Lord Jesus was baptized and transfigured, God also declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17; 17:5), proclaiming Him to be the Messiah Christ. The New Testament quotes this verse to confirm the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 13:33), His authority over angels (Hebrews 1:5-6), and His position as High Priest (Hebrews 5:5).
