A Living Sacrifice

A living sacrifice is a fundamental principle of the Christian life. In the Old Testament, God’s people offered animals like bulls and sheep as sacrifices, and the priests would kill them on the altar. In the New Testament, through the redemptive death of the Lord Jesus Christ, believers are no longer required to kill sacrificial animals. Instead, they are to offer their entire lives to God while they are still living and obey His will.

The Bible records:

[Romans 12:1] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

[Romans 6:12-13] Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
